And finally....

When I left off from posting on this blog it was with the regret that the twelve months had failed to provide an opportunity to photograph the graveyard at it's best, with a good covering of snow, and that if that chance ever came up I'd take it and do one final post.  So here it is.

Shame about the dead geraniums though.

Our friendly old tree is still there, so often full of magpies, but not today

The snow fell last night and I kept hoping it wouldn't rain overnight so I could finally write this post.

It didn't and we woke to shining cemetery.  It was obviously a few inches deep, even when I was walking outside by the wall.

I certainly wasn't the first person to arrive....

But didn't have to go far to find a lack of footprints - well, human ones

There had been plenty of non-human activity though.

To which I would add my size elevens, complete with much needed deep tread

It;'s a scene that lends itself to panorama shots

That crisp white covering enhances everything (well, visually at least)

The Stillbirths memorial is a bit more sheltered than most, but still enhanced

Shooting in monochrome gives the place a slightly more sinister look

By the time I was ready to leave the sky had darkened again and more snow looked likely

But that would clear and the cemetery sparkled in the afternoon sunshine, with dramatic shadows

And finally.....

If you were one of the few people to have looked into this blog in 2016 you might remember a grave that was dug in February on which no headstone subsequently appeared, and the mound of earth started to blend in with it's surrounding to become almost invisible.  Well, that was rectified some time last year (I didn't visit nearly as often as I did when writing the blog) and provided some reason for the delay.  The grave now had two occupants, one having died in January, her husband following in May.  Both were 82.  I'm strangely pleased that they got their memorial eventually.  And an ending to my 'story'.
